A summary of the 2025 Electrodeless Plasma Thruster Workshop

On July 3 – 4 we had the pleasure to organize and host the 2025 Electrodeless Plasma Thruster Workshop at the Puerta de Toledo Campus of Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. The workshop offered the opportunity to explore open research questions in the field of plasma propulsion, and bring our community together.

During the two days of the event, we were surrouneded by international experts and colleagues having vibrant discussions. After an inspiring opening keynote by Eduard Bosch Borràs (European Space Agency – ESA), the event was organized around 5 round-table sessions:

  • Plasma diagnostics and prototype characterization
  • Plasma dynamics inside the source
  • Wave-plasma interactions and plasma heating
  • Magnetic nozzles and magnetized plasma expansions
  • Alternative propellants and air-breathing applications

We then concluded with a visit to the Plasmas and Space Propulsion Team (EP2) laboratory.

We hope that the discussions that started during the workshop will continue to evolve, leading to fruitful collaborations! Presentations from the the workshop can be found on its website: https://eptworkshop.uc3m.es/
